Foxglove
Three species occur in the U.S. (purple foxglove, Grecian
foxglove and the straw foxglove). Occurs wild in the Pacific Northwest but
is grown as an ornamental throughout North America. All parts of the plant
are toxic, but the flowers, fruit and immature leaves have the highest
concentration Dried plant matter retains toxicity. Initially,
gastrointestinal signs are present but cardiac arrhythmias may occur.
Prognosis is good unless severe heart disease is present. |
